Tabula Rasa

But what's it mean...

First Appeared in Burnt Toast#7, 1991

A teapot that has a mouse in it,
Things get madder and madder by the minute.
"Curiouser and Curiouser, is the expression I believe"
Wait till the scene when the crazy old queen
Wants your head off.
"Why worry about her, with any luck I won't survive this fall."
Feels like your bound to a merry-go-round
You can't get off.
Don't be surprised if you meet Captain Hook
'Cause our version won't always follow the book
Get set for adventure as soon as you finish
Your falling.
          Brooke Shields and the Muppets

'Twas after brillig, and the toves
Were gimble slithing in the bath
The borogoves were home in droves
Where the raths had bagsed the hearth

"The Jabberwock is dead, my son
We lie upon its downy fleece
Now that the dregious deed is done
The tulgey world's at peace"
          Boojum!

The best book on programming for the layman is "Alice in Wonderland"; but that's because it's the best book on anything for the layman.
Found in a UNIX fortune file.

City sleeps, taxi sweeps
Avenue of Broken Dreams.
No-one calls; the angel falls,
Alice is in Wonderland.
Whiteman dance,
Heat romance,
Neon fashion,
Chatter.
Alice is in Clubland.

Chorus:
Wo-oh-oh-oh, white limbo
Wo-oh-oh-oh, white limbo

She's no Juliet, gigolo
Years may come, years may go
Alice is in Limbo.

Chorus

Alice cried, no romance,
It's a hopeless dance,
Babylon is broken.
Alice cried, the dream has died
There is no Wonderland.

Chorus

DER JAMMERWOCH
Es brillig war. Die schlichte Toven
Wirrten und wimmelten in Waben;
Und aller-mümsige Burggoven
Die mohmen Räth' ausgraben.
          Robert Scott

Anice (or was it Alicia?) fell into a hare's warren. Do bats eat cats she wondered, as she plunged into the dark. I suppose Sabella had climbed trees, dug into holes; I don't recall. I think I'd even seen this hole before, assumed it was but another pit in the quarry that overhung the canal bed. Why did I go in? I foresee an analogy, the womb of the earth, Sabella's womb. But I think it was just somewhere to hide, and maybe Alicia's was also a hiding place from her womanhood.

One pill makes you larger, and
One pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall.

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell'm a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice, when she was just small.

One man on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you will just have some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving all alone.
Go ask Alice, I think she'll know.
When logic, and proportion,
Have fallen smartly dead
And White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off her head,
Remember, what the dormouse said.
Keep your head, keep your head.

On the way to the library I met Bill. He's taking me out tonight. I can't wait to see what happens. It's a completely new world I'm exploring, and you can't even conceive the wide new doors that are opening up before me. I feel like Alice in Wonderland. Maybe Lewis G. Carroll was on drugs too.

Wouldn't it be wonderful
Walking hand in hand.
Wouldn't it be wonderful
If the world was Wonderland

(probably not)
